Valvular heart disease, especially rheumatic heart disease, is prevalent in Thailand. Most of patients end up with valve replacement when they have symptoms related to valvular lesions such as shortness of breath or have changes of cardiac function. Post surgical care including maintenance of anticoagulation and prevention of infective endocarditis are crucial.

Generally, the mechanical prosthetic valve

requires life-long anticoagulation whereas
