Heart transplantation is a surgical transplant procedure performed on patients with end-stage heart failure or severe coronary artery disease. The most common procedure is to take aworking heart from a recently deceased organ donor and implant it into the patient. Post-operation survival periods now average 15 years. King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital succeeded the first case of heart transplantation in Thailand and in South East Asia. The first heart transplant patient is still alive with 20- year graft survival. In order to be considered for a heart transplant you must be evaluated by transplant cardiologist, surgeon, and other health care providers here at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital. Evaluation for transplant involves taking a series of tests and being examined by a variety of different specialties.  The overall goal for this evaluation is to be ensuring that a heart transplant is the best treatment for your heart problem and that you don’t have any other health problems that would prevent you from getting the best results.
